Southwest Roanoke County resident, Liz Hansen Hinds has been grooming people's pets for about 3.5 years. After learning about a mobile dog grooming service in Greensboro from a friend, Hinds decided it was something she wanted to offer to the Roanoke Valley. It's been a year sense the idea came about, and after much hard work, Hinds is proud to introduce her new business, The Happy Dog.

"It gives an opportunity for something a little different for customers," Hinds said.

Hinds has a full service-trailer that she halls with her truck. You make the appointment and she will come to you and take care of all your grooming needs. She offers baths, haircuts, nail trims, and even tooth brushing.

Hinds believes that her services is more convenient for the owners and for the pets. She said it's less stressful and and easier environment for your pet and as the owner you know where the dog is at all times.

"It's a lot shorter of a time period for a pet, than going to the doctor and getting groomed. They get one on one time and go straight through," she said. "Some dogs just don't do well at the groomers for four hours."

Hinds said that it took her a year and all summer to get ready for service, but she wanted to do it right.

"There's a lot of things you don't think of when starting a business- the little things.

"It's been going well," she said about the beginning of her new business. "I've been book the last three days."

Hinds said that she has different kinds of shampoos which cater to your pet, whether they be allergic or sensitive, she carries all natural and biodegrable shampoos for different types of dogs, including hypoallergenic shampoo. Her trailer comes fully equipped with a tub, nozzle, and dryer.

"The trailer has everything a salon does," she said.

Hinds grew up in Philadelphia and came to the area when she was attending college at Ferrum. She majored in Buisness and said she stayed in the area because she fell in love with it.

She currently owns two dogs, once of which she rescued, one horse and a few fish.

"Growing up we've always had multiple dogs. In my neighborhood I was the dog walker. I just love animals. I always treat people's dogs the way I would my dogs," she said.

Hinds operates The Happy Dog, Monday through Friday. To contact her for an appointment call (540) 798-2230 or email her at liz7h@aol.com. Visit her website at www.the-happydog.com.

"I can provide a service that caters to their needs. They're not only going to get a bath, but their dog is going to be treated well. You're dog is groomed by the same person each time and takes down the stress."
